You heard it right. It appears some japanese hackers have ported Final Fantasy X's plot and system to the NES, using FFII as a template. Everything is there, sphere grid, beefed up magic system, Overdrives, etc.. Everything you know and love from Final Fantasy X in all its glory, as a classic 2d. Though it's not an official port, heck, it's not even legal. The hack is obviously all in Japanse, but look below for some screenshots.
