Please ask for clarification if anything I say is confusing. I imagine you will have custom profile fields. I would like for them to be read/understood throughout the board, meaning they can be used in the board wrappers. This will allow for a greater degree of customization. Macros... these are extremely useful, I'd like the Add Macro entry box in the Admin CP to be much larger than it is now on IPB. The allowance of the [doHTML] tag (or its equivalent) should also be dependent on the forum it is being used in, as well as the usergroup that is posting. That's all that comes to mind now... I'm sure I'll think of more soon.

you use them to keep your board wrappers from being so crowded. as you can name your macro shoutbox. then add all your welcomebox, shoutbox etc into it, and in board wrappers only place <{shoutbox}> and its all there and easy to read. the when you need to edit, go to macro and click shoutbox.
