Problems Downloading

I sent a note to contact us but wanna see how this works too.  I've tried to download your software twice now & both times don't get complete packages.  In my packages I couldn't find an install readme.  I tried to come here for a install page & your wiki isn't complete...or I couldn't find it.  And while I was trying to upload what I did get to my server it wouldn't accept one of 2 install files...as it said it had a virus.

I'm a Zoints fan.  Right now you & vbulletin are all that will work with their profile system.  So I really want this software.  How can I get it?  Thank you for your time.

OK wow that's a lot of issues right there.

There is no install readme in the packages as the install is supposed to be straightforward. Is this a bad idea? In retrospect it is, especially since the readme is actually installed as well.

Regarding the virus issue, just do this: rename install.data install.zip
Upload it
rename install.zip install.data

Or better yet download the nightly build, I believe that it will not be seen as a virus anymore.

Cheers,
-C.

Ok I tried it again & first of all when I downloaded your nightly zip there was only 2 files...install.php & install.data

I can't rename install.zip cuz it keeps saying install.zip.data.

I noticed the file install.data appeared on my server although it told me it wouldn't upload so I tried to install anyway & this is the error I get:

Welcome to NBBS!
I am now going to try and uncompress the data file.
If I fail, and you see strange error messages being displayed, it is for one of two reasons:
1. Either you have not changed the access rights of the directory where I am running,
allowing the web server to write new files,
2. Or this server is running PhpSuExec (ask your host!) and it does not like self-extracting scripts.
If this is the case, you are going to have to install NBBS the old standard way:
2.1. On your personal computer, rename install.data to install.zip
   2.2. Uncompress install.zip
2.3. Upload the newly extracted hierarchy of files to your web server
   2.4. Run newinstall.php

Uncompressing data [Error Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature( -10 )]

So I tried to zip the install.data file & uncompress like it tells me to do here & all I uncompress is install.data.  I tried to upload it to the server so I could rename it to install.data.  I've tried to upload this file several ways & it gets hung up half way through...won't completely upload.

What do you recommend next?

Also...I keep getting kicked out while trying to post & there's no "stay logged in" feature.

OK I finally got it uploaded & installed.  It's a large file & takes a while to upload (especially for dial-up peeps)...& it's best to do it via ftp versus a file manager.  Now I know.

But it gave me a code for a password & when I try to change it...it don't work.  I logged out & logged back in to use the new password & it don't work.

I'm also trying to figure out how to use the mods (like Zoints) & can't figure it out.  I tried to click your manual link & it's not working right.  And I also can't figure out how to add extra skins & what not.  I've downloaded many files...including what seems to be an arcade...but I don't know how to add them or the skins.  I'll keep looking/trying.

Trinest, are you saying that the password it generated for admin wasn't working?

A little off-topic.. but chris why does it generate a password? IMO, and I'm sure others would agree, it would be better to allow us to input our own password. It would save us from having to go and change it after registering. Cause I'm sure most people wont stick to the password it gave them.

Yeah I even went back to make sure, and well yeah the generated password does NOT work.
So what should I do, go and edit the MySQL Hash for my password? O.o

I think chris should make the installation let us put in our username, email, and password. >_<

Well, when you go back it generates a new password so if I understand what you're saying, that's expected to (not) work this way.

Here's my site: www.dawnswebdesigns.xenweb.net/forum/index.php & it took me all day yesterday to download/upload/install it.  I haven't had this many problems in a while.

There's no install guide.  There's no manual.  I have no clue how to use the admin CP.  Are there already mods installed & if so how do you make them work?

I downloaded several extras you have posted & only one of them had an install guide.  And it still didn't work.  It was the banners & ads...the php file would not upload.  The install file uploaded & worked...but I can't get the php file uploaded under admin.  Some of the other extras told me they were corrupted & wouldn't even open.

I also tried to make a new page under portal.  But when I click on this: www.dawnswebdesigns.xenweb.net/forum/index.php?act=admin&w=pages&aact=new it goes to an error page.

Evidently this site's new & this software's very beta.  I'm a do it yourselfer not a programmer/coder.  I'm also not a tester/guinea pig.  I need stuff that works.  Good luck with your software...it has potential.

Yeah this site is only 0.4.5 so the initial 1.0 release hasn't been reached. Hopefully by then chris will have things more sorted out and more of the requested features added. Pretty much the only people who use this software are people who are testing it out, or using it under chris's free hosting.
